And while diplomacy is always the first choice, the foundation beneath it is the same principle that guides everything else: a commitment to protect our people, strengthen our relationships, and approach challenges with a clear, steady mind.

Measured Leadership - Domestic & International: Decisions will not be based on impulse or what sounds good in the moment, but careful analysis of facts, clear goal-setting, and tracking whether our solutions are actually working for Americans and our allies. It's about being accountable for results, not just good intentions. Accountability must flow through every level of leadership – no exceptions.
Our evaluations must focus on what we intend to accomplish and if our actions will produce the best possible results, not just whether they were justified in the moment. This approach ensures we’re not just focused on our objectives, but actually working to improve outcomes for all affected parties.
Like above, we've learned some tough lessons about what happens when innocent people get attacked. Past aggressions have taught us what it feels like when violence hits home and tears countries and families apart. We need to use those experiences to bring our friends closer together.
